Kyoto Tachibana University Adopts Pure Storage FlashArray for Campus Virtualization Desktop Environment

Tokyo, Japan – August 23, 2016 — Pure Storage (NYSE:PSTG), the market’s leading independent solid-state array vendor, today announced that Kyoto Tachibana University has selected Pure Storage for its desktop virtualization infrastructure base (VDI).  As a result, student computer login access time has decreased from three minutes to 80 seconds.

Kyoto Tachibana University previously employed a network boot system to download a single operating system, stored on the server, to client terminals. The system, however, was not user-friendly. Students spend upwards of three minutes logging in, start-up times were delayed, and the progression and efficiency of classwork slowed.

Kyoto Tachibana University introduced the Pure Storage FlashArray 405 to its environment in June 2015, citing the system’s outstanding data-reduction features, the high I/O performance and cost performance, and the unique upgrade models and support systems provided by Pure Storage. The introduction was completed in April 2016, and at present 300 virtual desktops are operating reliably.

“By switching to all-flash with Pure Storage, we are now able to provide a reliable IT environment for our students. Thanks to Pure’s best-in-class data reduction and data compression we were able to prepare virtual desktops smoothly.” said Takashi Tsuji, assistant chief of library information at Kyoto Tachibana University.

“Pure Storage appreciates and welcomes Kyoto Tachibana University’s integration of FlashArray 405 for its desktop virtualization infrastructure base. By adopting Pure Storage FlashArray, the university was able to resolve operational issues and improve usability for students. We hope this relationship will carry through to future expansion of the university’s desktop virtualization environment,” said Hideki Yamada, country manager, Pure Storage Japan.
