Hi. My name is Anthony Live Ferrario engineer here at Pier Storage on the Cloud Block store team. And today I'd like to walk you through how you can use cloud block store to enable hybrid cloud disaster recovery Workflows. What you often have if you run your applications and your infrastructure on premises, is a desire to handle loss of a data centre
00:33
when I'm drawing on this left side. It's just a typical setup that can represent some of your apps running inside one of your data centres and being supported by a couple of pure storage flash arrays. The problem that you tend to run into in these disaster recovery scenarios is that in order to handle loss of one of your data centres, you need to have another one,
00:58
oftentimes with almost exactly the same set of expensive equipment, maintenance and lifecycle management that you would have to have for the first data centre. So how can we help you with Claude Bloch store to alleviate some of that ongoing cost and pain? Well, we can actually help you do disaster recovery into the public cloud instead of having to have that second data centre.
01:20
What does this look like? Well, essentially what you do is instead of having those physical flash arrays in his second data centre, what you would have is one or more cloud block store instances in the public cloud. This could be Microsoft azure. This could be a W s.
01:39
Whatever you decide to use for your public cloud, we can support because we have block store instances for both of them that support both of those clouds. You would deploy a set of cloud blocks or instances in the cloud, and then you would establish replication links between your flash arrays on premises out to your cloud block store Instances in the public cloud, this could be 1 to 1.
02:02
You could also do different apologies where you fan down into a single cloud block store instance in the cloud or set up various other replication setups. But the idea here is since we're running the same software on our flash raise on premises and in our block store instances in the cloud, we can support replication, just like if it was all the same flash array in both sites.
02:26
If you were doing to physical sites, so once you have these replications setups. And typically folks like to pick relatively frequent copies for this. You know, you might pick something like a 15 minute interval. Or maybe if you have some some tier two apps that might be a, you know, one hour replication interval. You can also even go down to active active.
02:46
But for this case, we're going to talk about a snapshot based replication approach. So what that will do is that will have this production data centre running your apps and just offloading the changes in data every 15 minutes and then every hour for the different apps over into your cloud block storage. This is I'll just draw a couple volumes over here to represent that. Yeah.
03:10
So what happens then? Right. All right. So very similar to if you had another data centre. The expectation here is that if you lose this first data centre, what you can do is you can have automation here, which can spin up virtual machines in the cloud.
03:35
And then you can copy out from the snapshots that were replicated up to the cloud volumes with the exact same data on it. And you can mount those data volumes up to your VMS in the public cloud and begin operating your application again. This is really convenient. You're able to execute the same kind of
03:58
disaster recovery failure and fail over workflows between a data centre and the public cloud that you traditionally would have had to have to fully stocked data centres to do. This is something that really only became possible with cloud block store. So we like to see customers thinking very differently about how they structure their infrastructure. Given the wide range of products that we have
04:21
in the flash array product family, this is one really cool way that you can do that. Hopefully you'll take a look at it and decide if it makes sense for you. And that's how you can use cloud block store to enable hybrid cloud disaster recovery workflows in your business. Thanks for coming and have a nice day
