Bringing data warehouses to the cloud has added a number of new challenges, but they can kind of be summarised as how do we make data

meaningful without rebuilding all the systems that we have developed over years of work in our enterprises? How do we maintain our data context? How do we keep a level of flexibility for the business without sacrificing good governance? And how on earth are we going to even innovate without losing existing

investments? It's sort of the innovator's dilemma to bring along a lot of our work into the cloud without losing all those investments that we have spent decades building up. So s a P data warehouse Cloud is about making data meaningful in the cloud. It is a unified data and analytic service that provides a complete end

So first of all, s A P looked at the accessing semantically rich data from any source. The typical approach that a lot of solutions in the past tried to take was just a copy and move the data just to keep up the performance thresholds. They tended to flatten the data. They took away a lot of the structure and they then left a lot of that onerous data modelling and transformations while living end users to sort of try to figure out what that lineage was going to be. So it was a good copy of the data, but a lot of context was lost as to how that data relates to other parts such as the customer, the product,

blind. And what we saw was that quite often it created a very nice central company data area with governance and security and trust around it. But very quickly, Department started making extracts of that data, copying them to their own systems, maybe needing to change the data model quickly, maybe combine it with external data and then would analyse that outside that area of trust

and with those copies, maybe start emailing them around, using spreadsheets to communicate data and what ended up happening was that data would quickly get out of date. It would be out of control because it was just on a spreadsheet being emailed around. Compliance was put at risk, and worst of all, insights would start getting inaccurate.

So Data Warehouse Cloud was designed to bring all of that together inside a zone of trust. So s a P data warehouse cloud allows a technique called spaces, and each department can have its own space. The central company data can exist as a space, and these departments can then share that data within data warehouse clouds. So insights, data sets,

So Data Warehouse Cloud allows you to take together all of the OBOP BW investments that you've already built and retain that instant access to your s a P data while keeping those familiar structures in your data. So it allows you to bring business suite s four hana data together

into this environment, but still allowing users to keep the familiar models and the familiar connectivity to that data that they've already had. So all of those creative investments that your end users have built up over the years can now be brought into data warehouse cloud so that you have a nice environment now to continue to innovate in the cloud.

But all of those models business processes that you built up are no longer need to be left behind or reinvented for your cloud environment.
