Pure Integral to UT-Dallas’ Global VDI Initiative

Customer:

University of Texas at Dallas’ storage system was a Sun/Oracle system that, at the time, performed adequately. But as they tried to take the next step, which was to add support for virtualization and a transition to 10 gigabit Ethernet networks. They expected storage to work the way it always had – just add more when you need it. To their surprise, they weren’t getting the performance they wanted. Between the network and the storage, they were getting a lot of latency.

Challenges:

  • Provide access to essential systems and applications
  • Replace computer lab model with flexible, efficient desktop virtualization
  • Support student devices, mobile

Use Case:

IT Transformation:

  • 8:1 data reduction
  • Latency time for engineering apps slashed
  • Recomposes completed in an hour

Business Transformation:

  • Student access to 35+ essential engineering applications and 3D programs
  • Global student access to computing resources
  • Maintenance no longer a disruption to student computing resources
