Fixing What Ails The U.S. Patent System: A Modest Proposal

This post originally appeared on Forbes.com and is authored by Pure Storage VP of Legal, Joe FitzGerald. It’s time to overhaul the broken, ineffective U.S. patent system so that it actually promotes innovation and doesn’t inhibit it. Under current law, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issues patents with overly broad claims, that last too long, and require too much effort to understand. While intended to protect inventors, the system as currently constructed instead creates disincentives for entrepreneurs and provides undeserved riches to patent assertion entities. We need a new approach. Created over 200 years ago, the current system does…

Introducing FlashStack Converged Infrastructure

flashstack stack

At Pure Storage we’re dedicated to a number of core principles, including delivering simplicity, efficiency and an excellent customer experience. While the Converged Infrastructure movement has dramatically simplified the deployment of computing, unfortunately most converged infrastructure solutions are based on slow, complex, bulky disk storage systems that just can’t keep up in a modern data center environment. Our customers often tell us they wish their entire data center infrastructure were as simple to buy, deploy, manage, and upgrade as a Pure Storage FlashArray.     Today Pure Storage is announcing FlashStack Converged Infrastructure (FlashStack CI), a 100% flash converged infrastructure solution…

Restoring Protection Group Volume Snapshots

FlashRecover protection groups can be defined at all the different object levels the FlashArray supports; volumes, hosts and host groups. Whenever a snapshot is created, the individual objects in the protection group are snapped together to create a point-in-time consistency group called a protection group snapshot. FlashRecover protection groups can be defined and managed from the […]

Setting up iSCSI with VMware ESXi and the FlashArray

I’ve been with Pure Storage for about ten months (time flies!) and a noticeable trend I’ve seen in the past six or so months is in the number of customers who are deciding to use iSCSI as their storage protocol of choice. This is increasingly common in greenfield environments where they don’t want to invest in […]
