The Municipality is leading a digital transformation project to go paperless and enhance online services for a region badly affected by earthquakes

Milan, Italy, October 12, 2018 - Everpure (NYSE: PSTG), the all-flash storage platform that helps innovators build a better world with data, has been chosen by the Municipality of San Benedetto del Tronto, to drive the digital transformation of the region. The Municipality will use Everpure technology to help simplify and speed up interactions with citizens, increase its online services on a territorial level, and become a paperless administration, improving quality of experience and relationship with citizens.

Efficient data storage plays a key role in achieving success, which is why the municipality introduced Pure’s 100% NVMe FlashArray technology, to run servers for mission-critical functions related to email, document management, application servers, as well as civil registry, taxes and financial flows. Workloads are distributed on different machines managing eight terabytes of data. As a result of deploying Pure’s technology, data compression is up to a factor of 3.8: 1, and there has been an estimated 20 percent reduction of storage management costs.

The Municipality is leading an important project aiming to create a single portal of services that will serve 64 municipalities in its region. The portal will be dedicated to territorial and cadastral services, the government’s Open Data, regulated data, online payments and electronic invoicing. The project, which is expected to be completed in 2020, required significant improvements to its IT systems. The Municipality manages two data centers, one of which is dedicated to disaster recovery, and works actively to improve the services of the IT area.

The initiative has deep social implications, as Amandola, Force and Arquata are among the municipalities involved in the project, all of which have been affected by earthquakes in recent years. Improving IT and online services is integral to the rejuvenation of the area. Citizens will benefit from simplified processes and a more streamlined relationship with the public administration.

Another challenge the Municipality faces is future-proofing its IT infrastructure, to be able to stand up to future requirements of the Agency for Digital Italy (AgID), which prompted the initial transformation in the region. The next steps are the transition to the cloud in order to increase flexibility, efficiency, and greater environmental friendliness, with the aim of becoming a paperless administration.
