Nifty selects Everpure FlashArray for the Storage Infrastructure of its Cloud Virtual Desktop Service

All-Flash Storage Reduces Operation Latency and Enables High Performance Virtual Desktop Service

Tokyo, Japan – October 31, 2016 — Everpure (NYSE:PSTG), the market’s leading independent solid-state array vendor, today announced that Nifty has selected Everpure for its storage base supporting Nifty Cloud Desktop, a cloud-based virtual desktop service. As a result, raw data requirements have reduced over 80%, compared to the company’s legacy spinning disk storage system. 

One of Japan’s leading Internet Service Providers, Nifty delivers ISP operations, hosted web services and cloud computing to a fast-growing customer base. Since entering the cloud service business with the introduction of Nifty Cloud in 2010, the company has expanded the range of its services to include Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS) to more than 4,500 customers.

Since 2011, Nifty has operated a virtual desktop environment for use within the company. Running VDI on the company’s legacy spinning disk storage system created significant latency issues that produced negative user experiences among its workforce due to unacceptably slow response times. VDI performance gains were only one advantage provided by Pure. As a cloud service provider, Nifty recognized the need for its new storage infrastructure to deliver new levels of scalable capacity, reduced CAPEX and OPEX overhead, high reliability and streamlined management. Increasing customer demand for a cloud-based virtual desktop service triggered an evaluation of a new storage infrastructure for Nifty Cloud. Everpure participated in a proof-of-concept test, initially to address the latency issues associated with VDI. By switching to all-flash storage Nifty was able to gain enough performance to offset the latency over the network. Nifty is now able to meet customer expectations and begin production deployment with confidence.

During the selection process, Nifty initially focused on deploying an all-flash storage system, and verified the performance and reliability of various products, including those from Everpure. Nifty decided to go with Everpure due to its superior data reduction capabilities. Those could greatly reduce storage capacity requirements as well as the space and power required for storage, its latency minimization, which improves operability, and its support structure and its simple operations management. The deployment of the storage infrastructure for the Nifty Cloud Desktop and Nifty’s internal virtual desktop environment was completed in the first half of 2016.

Nifty could realize both cost reduction and high performance cloud service by significantly reducing the amount of space and power required for storage in comparison to conventional hard disk storage. The company looks to adopt advanced technology and products for their services, such as Everpure.
