Hello. My name is Tamer Sweet and data protection architect with pure on this video, we are showcasing pure storage, flash blade as an object backup repository, performance tier for V backup and replication V 12. We will explore the simplicity of setting up an object repository along with demonstrating a
00:25
simple backup and restore with object storage. Finally, we will be demonstrating the protection provided by as you will see, setting up an object repository is very similar to file or block. So we will follow the wizard service point is a flash blade VIP or data VIP.
00:51
Um the region it could be your lab location credential. I already have my credentials. So I'm going to use what I already have stored since all my proxies are connected to the network. I'm just gonna keep it a direct bucket will choose the bucket that was already created for us. And the folder is we have to create a folder
01:11
for the instance of um this repository. Um Now we're going to enable object lo by checking the make recent backups immutable here. We're going to demonstrate a backup job to pure flash plate optic repository to highlight a few interesting features from the V M side, only data that are compressed and ded Dulic.
01:44
It are sent to the uh flash blade optic repository. Not only that but each proxy based on its compute capability and resources will perform a multipart upload a feature of the object storage where each proxy opens multiple connections to the flash blade. On the flash blade side, connections from the proxies are distributed and
02:14
balanced across all available blades. Similarly, with restores, uh proxy servers will open multiple connections to the flash plate object repository and start streaming uh the data back to the either the original location or to alternative location. Depending on the setup, we're going to fast forward the restore video for the sake of time.
02:42
But as you can see, uh each proxy established um about 100 and 28 connections to the object repository on the flash blade uh to perform the restore as we approach completion. As you will see connection will start dropping. Now, I'm switching to object lock. So let's check for this backup job. Um verify that it has the an object repository.
03:10
As you can see it's V V R object clock repository that was created earlier. Now, we're going to try and uh attempt to delete uh the uh objects or the backup on the repository. We will attempt to place a delete marker on the objects. However, that will fail because it's unable to delete the backup uh due to the fact that it's
03:36
marked as immutable. Now, let's attempt with a third party application uh freeware called S3 browser free download to uh an attempt to delete the the objects inside of that pocket. Um While that process is going, we can also try to um uh see if we are able to even delete the entire bucket uh from the flash blade uh interface.
04:15
As you can see, uh you won't be able to delete it because the we have a retention lock enabled uh on the bucket. So even with the administrative access, we are not able to delete the bucket from the flash blade. Now, back to the S3 browser. Let's see if we can delete if we, if the objects were deleted.
04:35
As we can see, it seems like the S3 browser was able to place the delete marker on the objects. Um We can verify by looking at the total objects and uh from thousands uh down to one. Now we'll attempt to restore our V MS uh from the repository uh and see if uh V M will be able to um perform that operation. It's going to be an instant recovery uh restore
05:07
or select our V MS and make sure to restore them to an an alternate location and add the suffix. As we can see, we now have 10 tasks um equivalent to the number of V MS we have in the backup if we go on. Uh and see on the V center, I'm going to filter on the restored uh suffix.
05:51
I've already restarted the V MS. We can even look at the console and see that the V M uh is actually coming up. This worked because uh V M still understands the, the object, the version of the object. Thank you for watching.
