Italy - WEEE and Environmental Compliance

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Italy

The Italian Legislative Decree No. 49 of March 14, 2014 transposes the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive 2012/19/EU.

Pure Storage products are sold in Italy by value-added resellers (VARs). The value-added resellers (VARs) act as the importer of the equipment into Italy. Thus the value-added resellers (VARs) have the legal responsibility to:

  • Register as the WEEE producer in Italy.
  • Provide arrangements for collection and recycling of WEEE arising from Pure Storage products that the value-added resellers (VARs) sell in Italy.

For equipment that you buy from the Pure Storage value-added resellers (VARs) after December 31st 2010, the value-added resellers (VARs) are required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of WEEE that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. This is providing the weight of the old equipment is less than double that of the new purchase. The old equipment that your new purchase from the Pure Storage value-added reseller (VAR) replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.

Under the Decree, the value-added resellers (VARs) are also required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from the distributor after December 31st 2010, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.

Pure Storage has decided to provide WEEE collection and recycling on behalf of its value-added resellers (VARs) in Italy.

Pure Storage has joined compliance scheme ERP Italia to manage all aspects of WEEE collection and recycling in Italy. Please contact ERP Italia below to arrange collection of the WEEE.
